Hello lovelies.
It’s almost Christmas.
Tree’s up. Stockings hung.
Cue the cheesy Christmas music and holiday movies.
Are you in?
Do you celebrate the season?
A lot of people I talk to find the whole thing a mixed bag. Maybe you have issues from your childhood, or perhaps the whole family togetherness thing is a heaping load of crap piled on your plate, or maybe you’re just fed up with the materialistic, over the top, buy-buy-buy of it all.
I hear ya. I’ve been a bit of a Grinch the last few years. Christmas had become something I dreaded. Something to just ‘get through.’ Lacklustre and more ‘ho hum’ than ‘hohoho.’
So this year I decided it was gonna be different or I just wouldn’t do it anymore. Why participate in a holiday when all it brings is painful memories and crushing exhaustion?
Here’s what I am doing this year.
I’m celebrating.
That’s it.
Celebrating. I’m taking some time to focus on what really matters to me, and celebrating that.
My kids. God, I love my kids! They’re turning into such cool people! I’m gonna celebrate them.
My guy. He’s the best man I’ve ever met. Not even joking. Celebrating the heck out of him!
Health, family, friends, home, my country. How about freedom? Democracy? Check.
God. For sure. My journey from religion to spirituality has been mind blowing, and I’m constantly amazed at God and how out of the box he is and I see him everywhere, all the time.
I could go on, people. There are so many things to celebrate in our short, crazy, majestic lives. What if we used this holiday to simply celebrate what means the most to us, in whatever way feels right to us? What if that’s all it was about? If that means a tree with presents, go for it. If it means taking a road trip with your best friend, eating at greasy spoons and staying in motels, do that. If it means sitting your ass in yoga and meditation as often as you can, knock yourself out!
I guess what I’m trying to say is, maybe it’s time to look at the season differently, with a different perspective. If all we did was focus on celebrating, and determining what feels right, in our heart, to honour those things we are thankful for, and then we did that, what would happen? What might change? In us? What would it look like? What would you create?
Showing up with intention. Creating an authentic expression of our hearts. That’s what it’s all about.
My heart’s prayer for you is that you have a sacred, beautiful, meaningful time of celebration. Take the time to celebrate the people and things in your life that mean the most to you. Express your heart to those you love. Let them know how much they mean to you.
Namaste and Merry Christmas.
